|This painting was inspired by Gil Cohen's vist to the Smithsonian Institution aviation storage facility at Silver Hill, Maryland many years ago. While there, Gil spotted the fuselage of a Dornier 335 suspended a few feet off the ground by plank and crate supports. The World War II German aircraft had languished out of doors for many years.
Some time later Gil was inspired to execute a painting based upon this image. However, instead of the cluttered background of Quonset huts and airplane parts, he has given it a "Gotterdammerung" setting on a hillside against a twilight sun-perhaps reminding one of a prehistoric creature lying in a dormant state.
