Tex Johnson winning the fist postwar race for the Thompson Trophy at Cleveland in 1946. he was racing against P-51s, P-63s, an F4U, and Tony Lavier, who finished 2nd in his red P-38. Flying a Modified P-39Q, he led all the way, and bettered Roscoe Turner’s Record set in 1938 by 90 mph.
