S-44 Over Laguardia Seaport

The Sikorsky VS-44A was designed and built by Igor Sikorsky in the early 1940’s. During World War II, it flew trans-Atlantic, after which it was used in South America, California, and the Virgin Islands.

The age of the great flyingboats remains on of the most romantic time period for aviation. In the few short years the aircraft traversed across the worlds great oceans they served as luxury civilian airliners prior to the outbreak of hostilities and as military transports during the war.
