|March 8, 1944 was a momentous day for the 56th Fighter group, Zemke's Wolfpack and especially pilot Bud Mahurin. Mahurin added another three aircraft shot down to his tally of now more than twenty making him the top-scoring American Fighter Ace in the European Theater of operations.
In "Return to Halesworth" Gil Cohen pays tribute to the 56th and particularly Bud Mahurin. Cohen recalls newspaper accounts about Mahurin, developing a fascination with his story that has lasted ever since. When Cohen began to consider painting 8th Air Force fighters it was only natural to include Mahurin.
"Return to Halesworth" ranks as one of the most significant pieces of aviation art ever created. The unparalleled artistic skill, careful attention to detail and painstaking research Cohen incorporates into each of his works is easily seen in "Return to Halesworth". Each print is signed by Bud Mahurin and Gil Cohen.
