"C'est la Guerre" is a companion to the earlier print "Bonne Chance." Both of these prints show the human side of a day in the life of an early Royal Flying Corps combat pilot during the Great War 1914-1918.
"C'est la Guerre" depicts the pilots returning, spent and exhausted from a grueling dawn patrol. The pilots are grateful to of survived another mission at a time when pilot often measured their combat experience in hours before meeting an untimely demise. Although surviving the patrol they are painful aware of the loss of their comrades that did not make it home.
