Lt. Klaus Bretschneider, in FW-190A8 R8, “Rauhbautz VII,” armed with 20mm and 30mm cannon, is face to face with the tail gunner of mortally wounded B-17G-50DL, SN#44-6291 on the 303rd. Bomb Group's August 15, 1944 mission to Weisbaden, Germany. It is the crew’s tenth mission and the aircraft’s fourteenth. All five of the B-17s in the painting went down on the first pass of the tightly grouped FW-190’s.

Lt. Bretschneider would cgo on to claim 31 bombers, but would lose to American fighters on Christmas Eve, 1944.
